Tokyo Kawaii Life order 22 - Liz Lisa Sunflower set up, Sailor check OP, Floral chiffon sukapan

I was just thinking to myself that I hadn't made a good size TKL order for myself in awhile, but I ended up making this one at the end of May, so my "hiatus" from Tokyo Kawaii Life online shopping was short lived lol.

I really fell in love with this sunflower set after seeing it on Risato and then seeing it on other shop staff/LL Gals only convinced me even more!

I've been trying to move away from set ups for myself because I was feeling a bit too old for them (and had nowhere appropriate to wear them) because of the length but, this sunflower set up features a regular skirt instead of a sukapan which means a little bit more length which is great for me! I had a little hesitation because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to use the top and skirt separately but actually the official blog took care of that right away by showing Reina is several different coordinates using the top and bottom separately! It really made the set up seem versatile. The more I saw of it, the less sure I was about what color I wanted (white, pink or blue), but in the end I got white. Blue actually sold out first in both the top and the skirt though!

I wasn't sure how I felt about this set up when I first put it on. Tbh, my very first impression was that I was a little disappointed lol. The top was poofier/roomier than I expected or would have liked even with the hem of the top pulled all the way down (like it's just roomy in the chest area?) and the skirt was actually quite long. I'm taller by at least an inch or so than quite a few of the shop staff so I always think that items are going to fit me slightly differently but for this set up, it actually seems to fit me almost the same? I guess it depends where on your body you wear the skirt though and that affects where you'd ideally like the top to hit. ANYWAY, that being said, I think once I added heels (and hair) and figured out where the skirt looks best on my body, it's a lot more reasonable than I first realized and actually really close to how a lot of the shop staff wore it.

I also wanted to try and create coordinates with the top and bottom separately like Reina did (with pieces of my own)!

This last look ^^ was heavily influenced by one of Reina's coordinates, but I think it doesn't work as well because my shorts are so damn unflattering. I don't know why I keep these tbh. But actually the brown technically matches, so if the fit was just a little bit better, that would be nice lol. I really wasn't sure what I wanted to pair this top with. I don't have a lot of white bottoms or even plain bottoms (without a print), so what you're seeing here is just about it lol. I actually quite like it with denim bottoms! Surprisingly it's not so bad with the fitted denim skirt. Unsurprisingly, the Swankiss skirt is quite nice as well since it's a very reasonable but still cute basic and the embroidery on it is gold so it doesn't clash too much. Tbh I tried very hard lol. You can be the judge of how it worked out.

This was also a little bit more of a struggle than I thought it would be, but a nice challenge! Since the waistline/general silhouette of this skirt is not a regular high waisted skirt, a number of my basic tops that I would usually wear with a printed skirt don't work out that well. I feel like the skirt has to sit at just the right height or it throws everything off, and the top has to complement that. In the end, I think that the lace sleeveless top (last coordinate) works the best, but my torso still kind of looks a bit elongated? The skirt has nice length though so if you're on the taller side, this is a good skirt for you!

I didn't want to purchase the sunflower set alone so I decided to look around for a few other things to put in my cart. I thought I was going to purchase this dress during my March 2015 Japan trip in store, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I had that problem a lot for some reason?? Anyway, I thought this dress had sold out online, but I guess it restocked and lucky for me in my first choice of color! (I think it actually restocked in all the colors but sold out in blue quickly.) I really liked all of the colors tbh but I liked that the pink one was a little more muted? I faintly remembered seeing it in person and knew that the color wasn't as washed out as the stock photos made it seem, although I knew it certainly wasn't extremely loud either.

^^ most ideal fit with me pinching the extra fabric (on the left) but actually there's a couple inches of extra room (on the right) ^^

The fit really leaves something to be desired for me. I knew this OP wouldn't have a ribbon tie (which I really prefer to help for fit), but I didn't think about the waist fit too much. It's a couple inches bigger than I would prefer it to be in that area. I know some people prefer their clothes to fit like this, but it's a huge no for me personally, and I'd feel really weird walking around with it like that. However, I do really like the length, so I'm not incredibly disappointed with it right now. The design is cute but not overwhelmingly so which I anticipated and really enjoy, but the waist fit is really kind of ruining it for me at the moment because that kind of thing is really important to me and it's more than just an inch. I do like it when free size items can fit more than just the smallest sizes in general, but I just wish it would also fit well on my body as well (which it could have done if there was a ribbon tie).  It is super cute though.

I remembered that a few others scooped this skirt when it was on sale earlier, so I just threw it in my cart too since I needed a second item to the check OP. Looking back at Claire's dayre post, I knew I wouldn't be too disappointed. I didn't purchase it earlier because pink was sold out by the time I thought about it. I was surprised to see it restocked, so I just grabbed it. Kind of unreasonable since I told myself no more sukapans because of the length but this one seems really darling and classic Liz Lisa.

No complaints about this sukapan! It was exactly as expected. And this one doesn't seem extremely short which I really like. The color is easy to match, and I think this will be great to wear casually. I don't have a lot of sukapan that I purchased solo (as in not part of a set up) and none like this already, so I think it was a great choice to add to my cart and my wardrobe.

I'm a little mixed about this order overall, but I'm really happy I got the sunflower set to try and coordinate it as separates! I love a "challenge" like that. (It was a challenge to me at least since I really don't own any white bottoms to match as well as I'd like with the top, idk if it's actually a challenge for anyone else lol.) And I do really like the print - it makes me so happy to look at it! I would be more pleased if the sailor check OP fit a little better but that can't be helped. I haven't purchased a lot of other clothes worn by that stock photo model but now I know how the fit on her compares to the fit on me lol. That's just part of ordering online!

I also quickly shot a short coordinate video to update my YouTube channel featuring the sunflower top and bottom! There's a sunflower top coordinate that I decided not to do for the photo portion of this post, so it's not a complete redundancy if you want to watch it lol. And actually I shot the video first before I shot the photos so I didn't even come up with the photo coordinates until later wtf haha.

As a small reminder (and I'm sure those of you who actually read my posts are tired of reading these blurbs, but I am constantly getting blamed for not warning people of this, so here I go again) - I am extremely uncomfortable with my personal photos being used for the profit of others especially without a simple source link. In general, I would prefer for my photos not to be reposted without my permission at all, but if you feel the extreme need to do so, I simply ask that you just include a simple link back to my original post. Regardless of whether I watermark every single photo, I do still own the copyright to these pictures and you finding them on Google Image does not mean I do not own them anymore?? (There has been some confusion on that front apparently. And to be clear, Google does even warn you when you click on a photo that the image may be subject to copyright, and Google does not sever the photos from their original pages, so it's easy to find their source if you choose.) I do not blog and post these photos so that others can sell their products that are not associated with me in the slightest. And the response I get when I just ask for my photos to be sourced really discourages me from sharing and continuing to blog. I mean this in the least aggressive way possible, but I'm not just going to throw 80 smiley emojis in this to "soften the tone" because I am serious, and I honestly feel like you should be able to read a paragraph like this without emoticons and not be offended by its message.

  1. I really like the sunflower set ^.^ I think that if you wore the top with white shorts (or pants) it would look really nice and sophisticated. The skirt is a lot longer than I expected - I'm glad I didn't get it now actually. :/

    1. Haha yeah I really don't own any white bottoms! The white sukapan was the closest thing I had and I rarely wear it BECAUSE it's white lol. I wish I could have worn it more like Reina (with the white shorts and pants) but white bottoms are just not something I buy apparently and definitely not something I'm going to invest in specifically for this top. The skirt could still totally work on you though!
