Liz Lisa bordeaux comparisons

As many of you probably already know from experience, Liz Lisa's colors aren't always standard. Pink can be light pink, deep pink, bright pink, standard pink, etc. But what's really tripped me up lately is differences in variations in bordeaux!

These bordeaux items all come from Autumn/Winter in various years, but they don't all match. I wanted to do a quick side-by-side comparison with the items I have with any kind of bordeaux (or deep red) color in it to help show which I think are a good tone/color match.

This is not to say that I only think certain items can be coordinated with other items. It's simply to point out which items match in color better than others (in my opinion anyway), and you can make your own coordinate and shopping choices armed with this information if you so choose.

Since monitor/brightness settings can make a huge difference in how we interpret color, I thought it would be best to show these items in comparison to each other rather than to try and somehow magically capture the IRL color that would show up best on every single screen (impossible for me as someone with little to no experience in photography or photo editing).

I first tried to sort my bordeaux type items into groups of similar tones. I am in no way a color expert, but in my amateur opinion, the bordeaux color in the items within each photo are the best match to each other. I also included the stock photos when I could find them!

Purple/plum bordeaux -
Check off shoulder top in bordeaux (2016), Check skirt in bordeaux (2016), Frill cut cardigan in bordeaux (2016)

Wine bordeaux -

Frill embroidery blouson, Yui Kanno collab pom pom ribbon barrette, Big ribbon beret, Pleats tulle sukapan, Floral ribbon OP, Striped cut cardigan, Lace up pom pom pumps, Pleats puff OP

Red bordeaux -
Check heart jumperskirt,  Color collar blouse, Sweet latte skirt, Quilting pouchette, 3-strap pumps, Vintage rose OP

(Included just for reference, since these items were never labeled as bordeaux but I think that sometimes can be incorporated with certain bordeaux items and just to how different it really is ~)
Deep red -
Heart suede pumps, Tralala ribbed cardigan, Bear book skirt, Heart frill pouchette

There are, of course, some slight differences between some of the items within the groups which I personally think are attributed to the differences in material, but after staring at some of these items next to each other for a while, that's the best I could come up with!

I also wanted to do some quick color comparisons for these check items + a few other items that have a little bit of that bordeaux/deep red color incorporated . I put some of the primarily bordeaux items from the above groups next to it so you can compare it/decide yourself.
Check winding wind pleats sukapan, Glen check cape OP, Check skirt, Check pumpkin shorts, Check sukapan

This should have been included in the wine bordeaux group but I completely forgot about this dress until after I had already reset my room and cleaned everything up, so instead it gets its own flat lay. I knew I was missing a bordeaux item but I just couldn't put my finger on what it was. -___-

Again, all of the above is not to say that I only think the items within each group should be only coordinated amongst each other. If that were the case, I probably wouldn't have been able to create like 90% of the coordinates I've shown for past blog posts. When it comes down to it, something that's a pretty close color match is acceptable for most of us, but I know that I was really surprised in some cases to open a package and see the exact color of some of these items. I just wanted to share a little bit of what I've learned based on what I have, and I hope you can make the best choices for you!

Tokyo Kawaii Life order 57 - Liz Lisa ribbon ankle boots, smocking embroidery off shoulder top, 17th anniversary cameo big ribbon barrette

To be honest, I was feeling a bit lackluster about buying Liz Lisa and shopping in general lately, but there's nothing like an iconic ankle boot to bring me back around and convince me to make an order. To help round it out, I added a couple older items that I was interested in but also wouldn't add much weight to the package!

Ribbon ankle (short) boots in pink (175-9604-0)
リボンショートブーツ
These ankle length boots have a chunky heel and rounded point toe. There is an eyelet design throughout the boot and they are laced up with a thick ribbon.
I was so excited to see that Liz Lisa was doing another short length/ankle boot in this style! I have the 2011 version in beige, but I've always been interested in getting them in another color. I didn't partake last year because of the fur trim, but these are much more neutral and I was really excited about it. Between the red, pink and beige color choices, pink made the most sense based on what I already own, and I liked that the color wasn't too obnoxious.

The boots fit well and are basically just as I expected! I do wish they ended maybe a couple inches shorter on my leg, but other than that, they're really great. I really like the light pink color that seems really neutral while still really cute irl. The ribbons as the laces are a nice touch as well (as long as they don't get dirty!).

Comparison with 2013 Liz Lisa ankle boots in beige
They are very similar in design but it's easy to see that the 2013 version has a higher front platform and a higher heel. The 2017 version is a bit longer/extends a little higher up the leg despite the lower heel.

Smocking embroidery off shoulder top in pink (173-1048-0)
スモッキング刺繍オフショルトップス
This is a 2 layer top with multiple ruffles and lace and shirring at the neckline. Sleeves have elastic and there is a bow on each side of the collar.
Saki and Amby both love this top, and I really liked how it looked paired with the belted jumperskirt (which I haven't purchased yet lol), so I threw this in my cart so I would have something else small in there besides the boots. I picked pink because I thought it would match better with my current wardrobe than the brown. Honestly, it was just how much Saki endorsed it that was enough for me to get it, haha.

The top is really lightweight and a little shorter in length than I had initially anticipated. It's not a cropped length but I definitely need to make sure the skirts I wear with it are actually well fitted to my waist or the top will become untucked easily. The "スモッキング" (shirring) part of the neckline actually has some pretty good stretch and makes it feel really secure for wearing it off the shoulder.

17th anniversary cameo big ribbon barrette in white (162-9204-0)
☆17th Anniversary☆カメオビッグリボンバレッタ
This is a long, thin 3-layer ribbon with a thin french style barrette on the back. There is a small cameo rose in the center.
I was looking for something small to round out my order, and this seemed like a really good option as I'm trying to introduce more hair accessories to my wardrobe. The ivory color is incredibly neutral and the cameo detail doesn't stand out very much but is a nice little detail. When this barrette was first released, I thought it was way too huge, but I absolutely love it as a hair clip at the back, middle of my head, especially with the layers of the ribbon.

It definitely works best at the back of my head, but it can be placed on the side if you consider the length of it properly. I think it would also look good with a bun updo as well. I've already used this barrette more than a few times because it just matches with so much and I almost always have my hair half-up half down. This might actually be the most useful purchase of the order lol.

I'm actually somehow happiest with the barrette of all the things! As much as I do like the boots and top, I know the simple barrette will definitely get the most use (in fact, I've already used it so many times even before this blog post was published). In any case, despite the boots making the shipping for this package a bit high, I am quite happy with everything.
