Ageha April 2016 and Popteen April 2016

I am so pleased to own both Ageha and Popteen magazines from April 2016. I saw Emiri on the cover of Ageha all over my Twitter feed, and then when I saw Ebony had purchased it, I put it in my cart. I figured, while I was at it, might as well order Popteen as well because I knew there would be a Liz Lisa spring 2016 spread in it due to the promo images released by Liz Lisa. As it turns out, Ebony purchased this magazine as well and after quickly asking her advice, I confidently purchased both.
I don't plan on making this a regular thing and scans really aren't the purpose of this blog, but both of these have such amazing content worth sharing that I think it would be a shame not to. I used Amazon JP and shipped these directly to me. [Ageha magazine link] [Popteen magazine link] They shipped via DHL and arrived within 7 days of placing the order.
I scanned portions of the magazine to share that I personally found interesting or that I thought would be helpful to others. I definitely encourage you to purchase and support the magazine directly where you can if you want to see the full issue. These scans are meant to be for personal use and I do not claim ownership of these images.

Popteen April 2016

Ageha April 2016
I don't own a lot of issues of Ageha so I admit I'm not 100% familar with the content, but I was still pleasantly surprised to see a number of looks using Liz Lisa items. As you can guess, they weren't himekaji looks, but the items that were picked still worked well in the spreads without being out of place. Since I can't read a lot of kanji and it takes me so long to sound out katakana, I spend a lot of time looking through Jfashion magazines and trying to identify as many Liz Lisa items as possible without looking at the captions. It's almost like a game lmao. I sometimes try to play with Ank Rouge, Swankiss or One Spo items too. It's just kind of fun to see items you recognize in a magazine.

I definitely consider both of these excellent purchases and worth the international shipping (although it would have been fantastic if it could have been avoided of course). Popteen's target audience is definitely a bit younger than I am but I still like to browse through the issues and pick out what might work for me or just use some coordinates as inspo and adjust pieces to fit my personal style better. And the Liz Lisa spread was the big selling point for me anyway. That being said, as their content has been changing over the years, there are some slightly more "mature" looks as they've been incorporating some larme-kei type coordinates as well and those are interesting to see. On the other hand, Ageha is definitely more on the onee/sexy side and since that was my original gateway into Jfashion years ago, it never tires for me even if I don't purchase a lot of the items or wear them often myself. (This is mostly because I don't have an appropriate place to wear them but not because I don't like the items.) I love the crisp and clear images produced by this magazine and couldn't stop turning the pages. Thanks Ebony for the recommendations!
I do not claim ownership of any of the scanned images. Please purchase and support where you can!

  2. Nice picks for scans! I recently imported this issue of Popteen as well. I admit, the two main reasons for purchasing it were the Econeco pouch (I like the artwork of Econeco very much) and the Liz Lisa spread which I've been looking forward to since Popteen had the video about the shoot up on YouTube and Twitter was exploding with the newest pictures. ^^
Reading your post, I now regret not getting Ageha as well- it looks amazing and the fashion and makeup choices are actually really good. I haven't bought an Ageha magazine since its relaunch, tbh. Seems like it is worth looking into again!

    1. The cover of Ageha really drew me in this time. I only own two issues of the old Ageha but I really like the direction it's going in now with a lot of the fashion spreads.

  3. Wow, thank you so much for that scans! Recently I'm not able to buy new magazines so it really was a nice surprise to find here a lot of pages!
I really like this spring's trends although I'm not suited for pastel colors that much.
But having denim and white/pastel combined again is a nice thing to look forward, too. The romantic flower prints, as well.

I have to agree that I think a lot of magazines go more for the adult style. Thanks to a friend I know earlier issues of Popteen and I think they really, really changed. Since I'm not about crazy style I like that change but a lot of gyarus seems to be unsure of it. Having more items of LizLisa and similar brands is more like sweetgyaru style and not that much "pop" right?
On the other side I think that teens of the whole world wants to be much more grown-up.
Maybe you all remember the "14 years old back when, 14 years old now" memes where OUR teenie period is shown (no make up, simple&comfortable t-shirts) and nowadays teens (looking like 18, makeup, perfect styling for school) ? Of course it's a bit exaggerated but you see that teenager nowadays wants to look more like an adult and so it's no surprise that magazines go with that change. (For example "Seventeen": From time to time you find issues with really young girls, just reached the "teen" age. But usually they are elegant an chic or sporty and fun but always in a cute grown-up way.)

    1. I'm not one who's really big on labels but I've seen the arguments that Popteen isn't a gyaru mag (anymore), but more of a fashion magazine aimed at younger girls in a general sense which makes the current direction a little more clear I guess since they're just trying to highlight what's trendy at the time.
I don't completely agree with the meme in a sense. There still exist thousands upon thousands of 14 yo girls without the make up, but they just don't make the news or post on YT/social media about it because they don't need to lol. The girls who do get the attention. Social media was a very different (smaller) beast when I was 14 but there were girls in 6th grade who had the full faces of make up and constantly had on acrylic nails. Not sure who the meme is really supposed to be criticizing since none are wrong and as long as you can still do well in school and be a decent person, who cares? But regardless, I see what you're saying in a broader sense. Maybe these magazines aren't for the original audience anymore or maybe they're trying to cater to a wider demographic. I still enjoy them for what they are personally :)

  4. Another great blog post! This issue of POPTEEN I really enjoyed because of the range of different styles they included even though it's meant for younger girls. The outfits were adorable.

I faithfully buy all AGEHA mags and Emiri was the selling point for sure! I am also now obsessed with Orimo Ai because she wears Liz Lisa, Ank Rouge, Onespo, and brands that aren't considered "Ageha" and she makes it look amazing!!!! I love that AGEHA included some of my favorite brands this issue!

  5. Hi, I was wondering how much does shipping cost to the U.S. for the magazines? And does amazon jp accept US cards and addresses?

    1. Amazon will show you the shipping estimate before you purchase. About $8-10 depending on the exchange rate and how many magazines you purchase and how much they weigh. They accept US credit cards and addresses but only certain items can be shipped directly to international addresses. Most Amazon fulfilled books and magazines are OK. I wrote about this in the past at the bottom of this post - http://emiiichan.blogspot.com/2015/09/pichile-september-2015-larme-017-risa.html
