Liz Lisa 2017 Fukubukuro

Need an introduction to New Years fukubukuro/lucky packs? Please check out what I've written in my guide to buying Liz Lisa online blog post! (or click to jump to a section)
Fukubukuro/new year's lucky packs
     What are fukubukuro/lucky packs?
     What's inside?
How can I get one (online/since I am not in Japan)?
     How much is shipping?
How else can I get the items?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first glimpse of information I saw about this year's Liz Lisa lucky packs was from a Tokyo Kawaii Life email which included a small banner at the bottom of a Dec 2nd email. It noted that more information about Liz Lisa 2017 fukubukuro would be announced on Dec 13. (More information would be provided in the mail magazine and by following Tokyo Kawaii Life on social media.)
There was a similar announcement in the lizlisa.com "News" section which mentioned a specific time (approx. 19:00) for when the details would be released and again, promoted Liz Lisa official social media for more info.

Liz Lisa announced their fukubukuro options by price on Dec 13, 2016 at around 19:00.
Tokyo Kawaii Life pre-orders would begin on Dec 16 at 19:00 and this was also announced on Dec 13 at 19:00. (In the TKL email magazine, they even added some tips about how to check out this time, so I would guess they're expecting high volume!)
Edit: TKL preorder listings were released approximately on time on Dec 16 and there were a few server issues, but nothing hugely detrimental as far as I know. There appeared to be a limit to 2 fukubukuro per customer per type. The My Melody fukubukuro listing did sell out within 7 minutes but did "restock" about 10 minutes later (but that may have been a site malfunction as you were unable to add it to your cart afaik). When I woke up about 4 hours later, the listing was definitely sold out again. The listing for the tote held stock for a few days but I noticed it was sold out on Dec 17 (HST).
On Dec 21, Tokyo Kawaii Life announced that they would "restock" the preorder listings for the fukubukuro that same day at approximately 19:00. This is around midnight HST so I wasn't awake for it, but when I checked about 5 hours after the fact, the tote bag was relisted and held stock for about 9 days. The My Melody fukubukuro did not restock.

There's not a lot of information released right now, but I will continue to update this post as I gather more! Please check back if you're interested and check out past years' related posts as well if you're curious ♡
Edit - There wasn't much official information released this year. Check out my Liz Lisa 2017 fukubukuro recap post for actual customer reveals!

Please also remember that I don't have any extraordinary knowledge about lucky pack contents. What I've written here that isn't explicitly stated by TKL/Liz Lisa in the listings is pure speculation and just based on what information I've gathered from previous years. However, there's never any guarantee that what's happened in the past is necessarily what will occur this year!

  1. Huh, interesting that there's only two lucky pack options, shame because if there was their 3way bag option then I would have definitely bought it. Hoping they do some in-store exclusives like that.

    1. They've really been cutting back over recent years (esp since they had 7 options or more at some points). I guess it goes to show you that you never know what will happen with fukubukuro!

  2. Are you planning on getting any of these? I have been waiting the entire year for this but now I'm kind of disappointed :(

    1. I'm considering it but only because I'm a huge sucker for fukubukuro in general. I shouldn't, simply because the winter items aren't useful to me at all, but I know I'll probably cave at some point. Every year brings something different and it's hard to know what will happen </3

    1. Not yet! They just released the options and # of contents so far. Hopefully we'll see the sample reveal as soon as Friday.

  4. Hi Emiii, can we get these at the actual stores in Japan? Or are they only being sold online?

    1. I'm sure they will be available in store as well but nothing *specific* has been released yet on that front as far as I know. Most Liz Lisa shop IG accounts have been advertising it though, so I'm sure they will have more information available soon.

  5. Can u get Liz lisa trunks other times of the year? Or do they only make trunks for fukubukuro? I think i just wanna buy a trunk because they r so cute.

    1. They are usually fukubukuro-related items and not sold solo/on their own throughout the year. If you only want the case, consider checking out secondhand sales.

  6. Hey Emi! Did you end up getting one this year? Just super curious!

    And the My Melody carry sold out only minutes after it was posted! I hadn't even gotten it into the cart when they were gone. But someone ended up taking one out of their cart or it "restocked" like you said so I was able to snag one before the posting was sold out. I wonder if these will be in store as well this year. Liz Lisa was very vague on there details for these and I'm quite surprised. Either way, I hope it's contents are good. This is my first Fukubukuro experience. ^^;

    1. I see that the Liz Lisa stores are advertising the fukubukuro on their social media accounts, so I think it's likely that they will sell them as well (not sure why they wouldn't actually) but each store will have different details as to when they will be open, where to stand in line, etc. I'm sure more information will be released as we get closer to the new year! Sample reveals usually take a little while to be released (if at all) but at least we were able to see the main piece for each bag!

Since I woke up for the release, I did decide to get one. (In case you're interested, I have a "Purchased/In the Mail" list on my sidebar for items that will likely be blogged about the in future!)

  7. I'm so jelly you were able to snag the My Melody version lol. I woke up at release but it wouldn't let me add it to my cart at all. I refreshing and trying to add it lol, but by 5:06 (est) they were completely sold out T-T. How did you manage?

    1. Practice I guess lol. The My Melody collaboration dresses sell out much quicker than this fuku listing did, so you just have to know what works best for your computer. I usually always wake up at least 1/2 hour before the announced time, login and start refreshing immediately and consistently until it stocks and then check out ASAP to avoid server issues.

  8. Hello Emiichan! I am very new at the fukubukuro scene (or trying to be fashionable ^.^;;) and have been enjoying looking at your blog. I was wondering, do you happen to remember when Tokyo Otaku Mode put their fukubukuro for liz lisa up last year (if you happen to know)? I was hoping to be able to try to get one there, but I'm not sure when to expect it or what the precedence is for getting one there. I checked your 2016 recaps but didn't notice mention of them going up on TOM? (although I might just be blind and can't find it >.<;; )

    1. I hadn't been keeping track of TOM last year but I will be this year! When I know if/when TOM will stock Liz Lisa fukubukuro, I will likely try and make a small announcement of social media. So far they haven't announced anything yet though.

    2. Ah! That explains it. Thank you for letting me know that TOM hasn't announced anything. So on one hand I'm glad that I haven't missed anything from them, and on the other hand, I'm sad they haven't confirmed they will have any, haha. Here's hoping I will be able to order one! :)

    3. Yes, my guess is that Liz Lisa hasn't yet let them know if there will be stock available to them. You can try and contact TOM and request information about it though which might encourage them to specifically ask the vendor. Liz Lisa hasn't been extremely consistent with fuku sales lately.

    4. Just a small update, I received an affiliate newsletter from TOM last night that usually lets us know about upcoming promotions or special items and no mention of TOM selling Liz Lisa fukubukuro yet! I'm thinking Liz Lisa lucky packs MIGHT be TKL exclusive this year but it could be just that VENT/Liz Lisa isn't releasing fukubukuro stock to TOM *at this time*. (I obviously don't have specific insider information but it's entirely plausible that TKL is seeing how their internal online sales go and if they have extra, might release to other vendors? Not guaranteed ofc but not impossible imo.)

  9. Hey Emi, thank you for this useful post!
I'll be in Japan for the new year, so I'll finally be able to be around Shibuya 109 when they start selling fukubukuros on the 2nd. My question is: is 109 the best place to try to get a LL carry on fukubukuro? Which time is best? (I know people queue there past midnight the day before). I'd like to keep my options open =) if you have any insight about this, please share! Thank you so much in advance <3

    1. I have yet to have the opportunity to shop for fukubukuro in Japan on New Years (which is why I have so much invested in the online aspect lol), but the best advice I can give is to ask the shop staff for the particular store you're planning to visit! They know their location best + will likely be able to tell you when to show up, where to wait, how long the line usually is, etc. Every location might be slightly different!

  10. Unpopular opinion: I like the flowers and the strawberries but I feel like Maimero actually detracts from the rest of the print. I'm also a bit disappointed LL didn't put their name plate anywhere on it (or even an embossing like they used to do way back). I still like it though so I'll probably get it.

    1. I don't think this is necessarily an unpopular opinion, but since it is a My Melody collaboration fukubukuro, I think they purposefully added the character to the print and is likely an attractive feature to those who are fans of the character but may not necessarily love Liz Lisa thus expanding the customer base a little. I acknowledge that it's not everyone's taste though!
