Tokyo Kawaii Life order 45 - Liz Lisa 17th anniversary flower key frame skirt & cat cup skirt

When winter items start to roll out is when I get to relax a little. I'm usually able to resist full price items most often in autumn, winter and early spring in comparison to summer just because of the weight/thickness of the materials of the items. That wasn't exactly the case with this year's early autumn season where there were so many pieces I felt I just couldn't miss out on, but hopefully I can abstain a little bit more from winter since coats and knits just aren't suitable for me. I'm not exactly starting out strong here, but skirts can be used in any season for me!

I'm really a sucker for Liz Lisa's floral printed skirts ever since the wagon print skirt where I felt like I had to have it or regret it greatly since they sell quite quickly and almost never make it to a sale in my preferred colorway. These prints are definitely something more unique to Liz Lisa that you wouldn't be able to find from a Macys, Forever21 or UO-type store and are worth every penny to me. I do have the key skirt from autumn 2014, but this one is different enough that I knew I had to have it too. Also available in pink and blue, I decided to go with white because it seemed the most neutral to me although I really like the other options as well.

This is the "white" color option but the base color is definitely closer to a light beige. I was expecting this and do like the IRL color. The waist band of the skirt is quite thick and there's a good chunk of shirring in the back but no side zipper. I'd say that the waist of this skirt is a little more forgiving than a few past Liz Lisa skirts (especially compared to the 2014 key skirt) and I personally would have benefitted from it being at least half an inch smaller myself because it feels a little bulky when it's not actually secure, but it's a minor complaint. The material is different than I was expecting but not in a bad way - it's really smooth and feels more appropriate for the season because it's slightly thicker than the usual polyester. That's not necessarily great for me, but I do really like the material in a general sense and it feels like really great quality.

This skirt/print was one of the featured items from the early European Time Trip promotion, and I wasn't crazy over it at first, but some time in the middle after seeing it on so many shop staff, I really warmed up to it. It also didn't help that I purchased the cut cardigan in bordeaux and was dying to find something with a subtle print to match it with. This skirt completely fits the bill for that! I love this cardi + cat cup skirt combo on Harajuku shop staff Kaede with the pink and white versions. Rebby also has the items in the combo I wanted (with the same colors) that she shared in an IG story, so I knew it would be a great choice!

The fit of the skirt is great. There's some elastic in the back of the waistband and also a back zipper. The only thing that feels missing is a hook and eye at the top of the zipper, but that can easily be added if you really want it. For two of the above outfits, I feel like the colors matched a little better when I looked in the mirror in my room but the way it translated in a photo wasn't great. I swear the pink of the heart suede pumps actually matches the color in the skirt a bit more as did the bordeaux cropped length top and the trim of the skirt. I suppose it does depend on the lighting though. The material of the skirt is very soft and smooth, almost like a satin which makes it a bit shiny. The print keeps it from being too "fancy" feeling though.

The cat cup skirt is actually from early autumn, so technically I'm not doing the most terrible job in resisting winter buys as I intended! I'm not doing the best job of it either obviously, but at least I'm off to a slow start and the trend continues this way! If anything, I'm hoping for some excellent winter to spring transition sales where I can scoop frivolous but way-too-cute winter items at a price that makes more sense to me! Both of these skirts can definitely be used in multiple seasons, so I'm glad that I got them before they sold out.

I was lucky to purchase the 17th anniversary key flower skirt in pink secondhand but in new with tags condition as the seller received the skirt as a gift but already owned it, so had no need for it. I really enjoyed all colors for this print and am happy to be able to own another color option. This isn't part of my TKL order but since it arrived before I shot for this blog post, I thought it would make sense to just tack it on quickly at the end.

The pink skirt is definitely the girlier compared to the white and would definitely translate more easily to warmer seasons, but I definitely don't have any regrets about making white my priority. I'm glad I had the opportunity to purchase pink from someone who didn't need it because I do love the print and cut of the skirt, but I know I wouldn't have been disappointed not to get it either. I really look forward to wearing all three of these great skirts soon!

    1. A number of people sell their items directly via their social media accounts (tumblr, IG, depop, live journal, etc) and there are some sale communities on Facebook.
