Liz Lisa My Melody 2017 suitcase fukubukuro reveal & coordinates

This is a very delayed post and I almost didn't do one because of that, but for continuity's sake, I thought maybe it's better late than never! (Sorry! I really wanted to push out all of my trip posts first and this post was never going to be timely to begin with.)

Liz Lisa x My Melody 2017 fukubukuro
LIZ LISA×マイメロディ福袋
This year there were two fukubukuro options from Liz Lisa - 1 suitcase style My Melody collaboration lucky pack with 7 items and 1 tote style lucky pack with 4 items including 2 OPs.
For more general information about Liz Lisa 2017 fukubukuro, please check out this post. For other customer reveal photos/posts, please check out my fukubukuro recap post!

I wasn't immediately sure I wanted to pre-order a fukubukuro this year, but once I saw the OP and read a little bit more about the contents, I figured I might as well. Despite my qualms about winter content, I always end up ordering a Liz Lisa fukubukuro year after year as I get caught up in the hype and the price:content ratio. I was really swayed by the spinner type hard/plastic suitcase design and the actual My Melody print on two items!

I created a short unboxing + coordinate video for YouTube! -
Fur collar back ribbon coat
I'm not really a coat person for obvious reasons, but I love receiving them in fukubukuro just so I can try them out. The white one I received in last year's fukubukuro was great during my recent Japan trip and I was really looking forward to seeing this year's one as well. Whether the color is a dusty pink or a beige (I think more people lean on beige but I'm still going to insist there's pink tones in there), I do like the color and is reasonably neutral enough to wear with a number of different kinds of outfits.

As far as I can tell, this coat is on par with the other fukubukuro coats I've received in terms of warmth it would potentially provide. I would definitely consider taking this on a future winter trip!

Liz Lisa My Melody strawberry floral OP
I was surprised to see how lightweight this dress is. I think a lot of people would read this as cheap (which is fair), but I look at it as an extraordinary favor to me lol. It's going to be so easy to wear it in Hawaii compared to other fukubukuro OPs in the past and the design is cute but not overwhelming.

Even though there's no ribbon tie, the fit is actually still really nice on my waist. Overall, I'd say the fit is almost perfect for me! It's comfortable but not too loose and the sleeve and skirt length are just about right.

Liz Lisa My Melody strawberry floral suspender skirt
This is made from the same material as the dress which makes it also very lightweight (which I continue to appreciate). The suspender straps are removable with buttons on the inside of the waistband of the skirt. There's no side zipper but the back of the waistband does have elastic/stretch.

Remarkably, this is another great fit! The waist isn't too big or too tight and the length is just about right. I don't know how often I'll wear an item like this, especially with the dress option as well but I like the subtle volume and the girly details.

Sailor collar knit top
I'm a sucker for a sailor collar and do think this type of type pairs especially well with a suspender skirt. I'm not at all surprised they decided to choose this style of blouse to include in the lucky pack. It's really easy to wear and would be great for casual as well as occasions where you want to play up the cute factor with added details.

The material is a light knit which would be good for spring weather. It's stretchy and isn't itchy or too fussy. The fit is about as expected with no big surprises.

Cardigan
This is a pretty ordinary cardigan, but that's what makes it so easy to wear! Not only is the color incredibly neutral, but the buttons are quite understated as well. It's definitely good to add some balance to an otherwise noisy outfit.

with Liz Lisa lace sleeveless top, Liz Lisa key skirt and Liz Lisa 3D flower pumps + Liz Lisa 3-piece cup Team C bag -
This is the cropped length I'm used to from Liz Lisa and therefore it fits into my wardrobe really easily. I know I will definitely be wearing this with non-jfashion looks as well because it's such a great basic.

Camisole
This is a basic item included in almost every single lucky pack option every year and this was no exception. Apparently the very same camisole was even in the 10,000yen tote lol.
with Liz Lisa houndstooth floral skirt, Egoist beret and Liz Lisa knot wedge sandals + Liz Lisa My Melody 2017 fukubukuro cardigan and Samantha Thavasa purse with Liz Lisa My Melody 2017 fukubukuro charm -
The fit is about the same as camisoles I've received in the past. Truthfully, I don't have much to say about this because I don't often wear Liz Lisa camisoles since I don't really enjoy unnecessary layering.

Liz Lisa My Melody charm
When there was a "miscellaneous" item listed as a content item, I was quite nervous as to what it could be, but I was pleasantly surprised to see this! I usually pass on the Liz Lisa x My Melody collaboration charms (which, to their credit, are more elaborate) because of the cost, so it's fun to have just this little one with the "flower crown" even though it is a little derpy.

Liz Lisa My Melody 2017 suitcase
This is certainly a departure from the 2013-2015 suitcase design (see all three compared in my previous blog post here) (2016 there was no suitcase option), and a breath of fresh air for me even though the hard plastic spinner type suitcase was an option in 2012 and earlier. When I travel with lots of luggage, it's easiest to maneuver suitcases with 4 spinner wheels in tighter spaces and have them be closer to your body so you're not in the way when you're in public. Not just when you're sitting on trains but also when you're in busy walkways and trying to get on and off escalators etc. They're not as good in a sense because they may end up rolling away on their own since there's nothing to ground them in place, but otherwise, I really enjoy the ease of use. I like that the material is a hard plastic which is reasonably waterproof. Although it's hardly a scratch resistant material, neither is the faux leather used on the previous year versions and at least the plastic is less likely to shed and tear.
The other small minor drawback is that spinner wheel suitcases tend to have less capacity than their rollaboard 2-wheel due to the design/placement. Because of this, I'm not entirely sure I will travel with the spinner wheel suitcase just because every inch counts. I'll definitely have to carefully consider the pros and cons because efficiency is very important to me!

Comparison with the Liz Lisa 2012 fukubukuro spinner suitcase
You can see that the designs are very similar but there are definitely improvements to the 2017 version with the added zipper pocket for the interior (in the 2012 version, if you opened the suitcase the wrong way, all of your items would come tumbling out) and an additional side handle. IMO the spinner wheel "technology" has also improved and the 2017 version does roll much easier. There is a small difference in height but the 2017 version is a tiny bit fatter so I think that they're about equal in terms of what they can hold.

Comparison with the Liz Lisa 2015 fukubukuro 2-wheel/walkabout suitcase
There are more obvious differences in size here and it's fairly obvious that the 2015 (and 2014 and 2013) versions will hold more contents than the 2017 version. This has to do with an essential difference between walkabout and spinner type suitcases though (with the placement of the extended handle and the wheels) so it's to be expected.
Note: I usually use the 2015 fukubukuro suitcase as a carry-on when I travel. Based on that, I would expect that the 2017 fukubukuro suitcase would be fine as a carry-on as well.

It seems like they really wanted to make this a My Melody collaboration fukubukuro with not only My Melody on the case but also on the dress, suspender skirt and a little charm accessory. In the past, the LLMM lucky packs only included the character on the bag/case but not on the clothes, so this was an interesting and welcome change of pace. It also included slightly more lightweight clothing items (coat not withstanding) which is great for me. I often underestimate the weight of some of the materials and am disappointed when they're almost impossible to wear in Hawaii without drowning in sweat, but I was so pleasantly surprised this time! I think I might actually end up keeping most of the items from a fukubukuro for once :)
